About the artist
My name is Jade, and I am an Aotearoa-based painter, sculptor, and teacher with a passion for creating living monsters to keep you company.
Beginning as a traditional painter, I was always drawn to the "comforting uncanny".
I was originally inspired by the classical masters of most artist training, such as Da Vinci and Caravaggio. I was obsessed with portraying my monsters utilizing a classical style. When I finally got my hands on clay, I realised I could bring these monsters to life.
Today, I create creepy yet comforting pieces designed to be part of everyday life. For those who, like me, find solace in the odd. Whether you are a seasoned collector of the strange or discovering sculpture for the first time, I hope my work speaks to you.

How to Use your Mahi Bugs:
- Introduce them to your class. These Mahi Bugs are drawn to quiet spaces. Remember; they can go home at any time- especially if it starts to get noisy again.
- Allow your Mahi Bug to quietly appear on certain students desks. They are a quiet reward! Be careful not to scare the
- Starting to get a bit silly and loud? They might start disappearing, or the student can return them home.
- They love to be pet softly on their heads.
